December 27, 537 AD - Hagia Sophia Consecrated

The greatest basilica of the Greek Orthodox Church was the Hagia Sophia built in what was then Constantinople. It was consecrated on December 27, 537 AD, and it served as the home of the patriarchs of the church. In the mid 1400s, it was taken over by Turks and became an Islamic Mosque. Today, it is a museum, and pictured is what can be seen on tours today.
