November 24, 1880 - Baptist Foreign Missions Commission Formed

On November 24, 1880, the Reverend W.W. Colley led one hundred and fifty fellow African Americans to form the Baptist Foreign Missions Commission at a convention in Montgomery, Alabama. In 2013, the Southern Baptist Convention’s International Missions Board named its International Learning Center in Rockville, Virginia, after Colley.
