November 28, 1858 - First Polish Baptist Church Organized
The first Baptist Church in Poland was organized on November 28, 1858. William Weist, pastor of this German Baptist Church, baptized Gottfried Alf and eight other people in the town of Stolzenburg (now called Rozanki) in what was Prussia at the time. Alf had previously been a Lutheran school teacher, but he became convicted about some Lutheran teachings and gradually became a Baptist. He became an influential revival leader as a result of this.
