December 3, 1154 - Pope Adrian IV Elected

Pope Adrian IV was elected on December 3, 1154. Born Nicholas Breakspear in St. Albans, England (pictured), he would become the first and only English Pope in the history of the Catholic Church. He is most famous for issuing a Papal bull demanding that the King of England invade Ireland so the Irish could be part of the Church of Rome.
