December 13, 1545 - Council of Trent Begins
One of Martin Luther’s main arguments that shaped the breakaway from the Roman Catholic Church was a litany of abuses by the Church that he considered blatantly non-Christian behavior. When the Council of Trent was called on December 13, 1545, the Catholic Church began to reform their practices. The Council was held in Trento, Italy, and met periodically for over eighteen years.
