We’ve released a bonus episode of the podcast featuring Nick Walters and the Center for Christian History — and this one is something special.
Nick sits down with Joshua Enck, President and Chief Story Officer of Sight & Sound Theatres, to discuss their upcoming feature film A Great Awakening, set to release Easter weekend, April 3, 2026, as America marks its 250th anniversary.
This film centers on one of the most fascinating and underappreciated relationships in early American history: the unlikely friendship between George Whitefield and Benjamin Franklin.
Franklin, the pragmatic printer and future Founder, and Whitefield, the electrifying evangelist of the First Great Awakening, formed a partnership that defies modern political and religious categories. Franklin did not share Whitefield’s theology, yet he became one of his most devoted promoters — printing his sermons, publicizing his tours, and helping amplify a revival movement that stirred the colonies before political revolution ever took shape.
Before the Revolution, there was a revelation. Before liberty was codified in law, it was proclaimed from pulpits.
In this conversation, Joshua Enck discusses bringing that tension-filled, historically rich relationship to the screen — not as caricature, but as a defining moment in American cultural formation.
For five decades, Sight & Sound Theatres has built a reputation for immersive, faith-centered storytelling. From epic live productions to nationwide theatrical releases and global streaming audiences in more than 165 countries, they have steadily expanded their reach. Joshua himself helped pioneer filming stage productions for wider distribution beginning in 2004, later leading the transition into feature films with I Heard the Bells, which debuted #2 nationwide.
Now, with A Great Awakening, distributed by Roadside Attractions, Sight & Sound continues that evolution — translating its signature stage experience into cinematic storytelling while maintaining historical depth and spiritual resonance.
We do not summarize the interview here — you’ll want to hear Joshua tell it in his own words.
