October 26, 899 - King Alfred The Great Dies

King Alfred the Great contributed greatly to the dominance of Christianity in England. He was a patron of religious education for his subjects. He defined his reign by the defeat of the Danes, and this rid England of its remaining pagan religions. King Alfred died on October 26, 899.
