October 25, 431 - Heresy of Nestorianism Defeated

The heresy of Nestorianism was conquered on October 25, 431, the Council of Ephesus replaced Nestorius as the Bishop of Constantinople. Nestorius believed that Jesus Christ had two natures, divine and human, and that these existed separately from each other instead of holding to the correct theological understanding that Jesus was both God and man at the same time. Pictured is a mosaic from a basilica in Lyon, France, depicting the Council of Ephesus.
