August 9, 1788 - Adoniram Judson Born
Adoniram Judson was born on August 9, 1788, in Malden, Massachusetts. Judson would become one of the most well-known missionaries of his time, serving for decades in Burma (modern-day Myanmar). As part of his work, he developed the first Burmese-English dictionary. Judson College in Alabama and the town of Judsonia, Arkansas, are both named for him.
