January 3, 1560 - Peder Palladius Dies

The Danish King Christian III battled Catholic bishops during the Protestant Reformation, preaching his beliefs from the pulpit. He appointed Peder Palladius as bishop of the diocese that included the town of Copenhagen. Palladius was a major influence in Denmark’s transition from the Roman Catholic Church. Palladius filled this role until his death on January 3, 1560. Fredrik’s Church in Copenhagen is surrounded by statues of famous Danish Christians, and Palladius is included there among the likes of Kierkegaard and Canute the Great.
