January 2, 1099 - Baldwin of Bouillon Crowned King of Jerusalem
Baldwin of Bouillon was crowned King of Jerusalem on January 2, 1099, after the death of his brother Godfrey. During the First Crusade, Baldwin expanded the kingdom to include the territories of Acre, Beirut, and Sidon. He died on April 2, 1118, after complications from a wound that reopened and was exacerbated by his consumption of fish caught in the Nile River.
