October 1, 1529 - Colloquy of Marburg

On October 1, 1529, Martin Luther of Germany and Ulrich Zwingli of Switzerland, two major Protestant reformers, met at the Colloquy of Marburg in an attempt to reach an agreement on matters of theology. While they ultimately agreed on fourteen of the fifteen points for discussion, they disagreed strongly on the doctrine of substantiation, and Luther stormed out, refusing to shake hands with Zwingli.
