November 16, 1855 - Missionaries "Discover" Victoria Falls

CHT

The famed missionary-physician-scientist-slavery reformer-colonial expansionist Dr. David Livingstone, for the first time, sees the largest waterfall in the world in Zimbabwe.  On seeing the falls on November 16, 1855, he gave them an English name for his queen, Victoria, and continued searching for the Nile River's source.  It would be 16 years later when a New York reporter would find him and famously ask, "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?".
