December 19, 1947 - Dead Sea Scrolls Found

The greatest archaeological discovery of the twentieth century occurred on December 19, 1947, when the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered. These scrolls contained various manuscripts of the Bible and were found in jars in caves near the ancient city of Qumran on the West Bank of the Dead Sea. Pictured is Cave Four where the largest number of jars was found. There was a complete copy of the Book of Isaiah, which is coincidentally the Old Testament book that describes Jesus Christ more than any other.
