October 3, 1943 - Gilleleje Asked to Hide Jews from Nazis

The Danish seaport town of Gilleleje was asked by Lutheran pastor Kjeldgaard Jensen to hide Jews from the Nazis on October 3, 1943. The Lutheran Church reminded its parishioners that Jesus was a Jew and urged them to live out the biblical calling to love their neighbor in this way. The congregation responded, and over 1300 Jews were hidden in this town and transported to neutral Sweden.
