September 20, 1921 - William J. Kirkpatrick Dies

On September 20, 1921, hymn music writer William J. Kirkpatrick died at his Philadelphia, PA, home. The former Civil War veteran was a life-long student of hymns and wrote the music for “We Have Heard the Joyful Sound – Jesus Saves, Jesus Saves!”, “He Hideth My Soul,” “Redeemed, How I Love to Proclaim It,” and “’Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus.” Kirkpatrick also wrote both the words and the music to “Lord, I’m Coming Home.”
