September 19, 1853 - Hudson Taylor Departs for China

Missionary Hudson Taylor believed people from foreign nations would be most open to the Gospel if missionaries adapted to the culture of the native people. Hudson, his family, and sixteen other families set sail from England on September 19, 1853, for China. They would go on to form the China Inland Mission twelve years later, which is still in operation today as the Overseas Mission Fellowship. You can find out more about the OMF here: http://omf.org.
