December 8, 1854 - Immaculate Conception Becomes Official Catholic Doctrine

One of the issues that divides Protestants and Catholics to this day is the idea that Mary the mother of Jesus had no other children and that she was born without sin. This is known as the Immaculate Conception (Ineffabilis Deus in Latin) and was issued in Papal Bull on December 8, 1854, by Pope Pious IX. This is an integral part of the Roman Catholic Church’s beliefs.
