July 27, 1099 - Pope Urban II Dies

CHT

During the conflict between the Muslim Turks and the Roman Catholics, Pope Urban II called for all of Christian Europe to “fight the infidel” Turks who controlled the Holy Land, thus sparking the First Crusade. He used this admonition to heal a rift between the Pope and the Holy Roman Empire, showing support from the Pope that had previously been absent. Urban II died on July 27, 1099.
