July 30, 1956 - "In God We Trust" Becomes Official U.S. Motto

“In God We Trust” has long been quoted as the U.S. motto (and has been printed on United States currency since 1864). However, it was not until July 30, 1956, when Congress passed a Joint Resolution authorizing this to become the official U.S. motto.
