August 17, 1761 - William Carey Born

William Carey was born on August 17, 1761, in Northamptonshire, England. He grew up to become a missionary and spent his career in India where he founded several schools and seminaries. He also translated the Bible into many Indian languages. He is now known as the father of modern missions, and William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, is named after him.
