October 19, 1856 - Fire Breaks Out During Spurgeon’s Sermon

The great preacher Charles Spurgeon experienced a setback in his ministry when fire broke out during a Sunday night sermon at the great Surrey Music Hall in London on October 19, 1856. Seven were killed and twenty-eight were hospitalized, and the events of this night left Surgeon deeply depressed for weeks. However, God works all things for good, and this event only increased Spurgeon’s fame, allowing him to spread the good news of Christ even further.
