August 12, 1812 - Archibald Alexander Becomes Princeton’s First Theology Professor

Princeton, like many of the current Ivy League schools, was once a seminary meant to train pastors. On August 12, 1812, Princeton appointed Archibald Alexander to be its first full professor of theology. Alexander was fit for the role as he had already served as a Presbyterian minister and as president of Hampton-Sydney College.
