August 15, 1096 - The Crusades Begin

The Crusades of the Christians against the Muslims in Palestine began when Pope Urban II preached his “kick-off sermon” in November of 1095. However, the Crusades officially began when the first troops were deployed on August 15, 1096. The Crusades would last for the next two centuries before the fighting finally ceased.
