July 1, 1903 - Apache Chief Geronimo Baptized

CHT

While the earliest days of European exploration of North America were primarily about accumulation of wealth and claiming new lands for a nation, conversion of Native Americans to Christianity quickly became an additional focus of many of these explorers. However, this was not always accomplished peacefully, with many settlers and explorers treating the natives like savages. After a more modern effort of evangelism to Native Americans, the great Apache chief Geronimo was baptized into the Methodist Church in the Oklahoma Territory on July 1, 1903.
