July 2, 1752 - First Bible Printed for the Algonquian People
The first Bible printed in America was printed for the Native Algonquian people. When it was first printed on July 2, 1752, it was cheaper to import an English Bible from England, so printing English Bibles in the colonies was impractical. However, John Eliot desired for Native Americans to read the Word in their own language, so he had the Bible translated and printed in Boston, Massachusetts.
