July 14, 1857 - Ting Ang Converts to Christianity

CHT

Ting Ang was a Chinese Tradesman from Fuchau who followed traditional Chinese religious beliefs in the mid 19th century. On July 14, 1857, he was the first person converted and baptized by Methodist missionaries. When he was asked why he chose to deny the gods of his upbringing, he allegedly replied, “These images are not real gods. I have just learned of the true God. He is invisible and not made by human hands.”
